Moon Gale - 2023/04/03
[IN PROGRESS]
I come from a family of procrastinators, of pros at running late and slip ups in memory- but with 4 of these forgetful family members under one roof, how do we manage to keep it together? My father, perhaps the most intelligent man I know, often told me to “report to the 3am colonel” by which he meant “When I work, I do enjoy the satisfaction of work well done, but it is not motivator enough. I need to envision the full plate of consequence for neglecting my duties.” he continues “When I fuck up, this goes down the chain of hands touching my work, and no one may notice this until hours, days, or even months until it is 3am and the colonel is calling your phone to let you know exactly how badly you’ve fucked up.”
In this long winded metaphor, my father describes a uniquely effective method of motivation for those lacking in normal ways. He asks one to step back and fully take in the responsibility of the task at hand, not just what it means for you, but what it means for others.
